Membership Divisions and Eligibility

NMMA has four membership divisions as follows:

• Accessory Manufacturer Division (AMD)
• Boat Manufacturer Division (BMD)
• Engine Manufacturer Division (EMD)
• Associate Member — limited to marine industry service providers.

NMMA membership is open to any business that meets the divisional requirements outlined below.

Eligibility Restrictions: Any business entity engaged primarily as a retail dealer, distributor or wholesaler of products is NOT eligible for membership in the NMMA. 

Accessory Manufacturer Division (AMD)

The AMD represents companies that manufacture marine equipment and materials used in the construction or upgrade of a boat or that produce marine-related products used to enhance the boating experience.  Accessory distributors or wholesalers are not eligible for membership in the NMMA.

AMD applicants outside North America must have a certificate of authority from one state of the United States showing it is legally authorized to conduct business in that state, thereby submitting to its jurisdiction. Without such proof, application for NMMA membership will not be considered. 

Boat Manufacturer Division (BMD)

A BMD member is a business entity that manufactures boats. The BMD represents the full spectrum of recreational boats, from row boats and canoes to inboard cruisers and mega-yachts. Boat dealers are not eligible for membership.

To demonstrate its commitment to boating safety and a quality consumer experience, NMMA requires all boat manufacturer members to participate in the NMMA Certification and CSI programs. To learn more, please visit the Certification section of this site.

Engine Manufacturer Division (EMD)

An EMD member is a business entity that manufactures marine propulsion engines.

Associate Member

An Associate member is a company that does not produce a physical product but provides a non-tangible service to the marine manufacturers and/or the general boating consumer. Associate Membership provides access to key customers, information resources and industry data.

Exclusive North American Importer Membership Consideration

A business entity that is the exclusive importer for North America for a manufacturer of marine components or accessories, boats or engines is eligible for Membership as a “manufacturer” member in the appropriate division described above. Qualified import product must be manufactured outside North America and documentation from the manufacturer must be provided indicating an exclusive relationship.
